This site explains the rules based on the USA Pickleball Official Rulebook, 2026 edition (USA Pickleball).
Tournaments in Japan
Pickleball Japan, the governing body in Japan, has run tournaments stating that the USA Pickleball 2026 rules apply unless noted otherwise. The same tournament also set its own rules, such as which paddles may be used (approved by UPA or USA Pickleball) and the number of timeouts (PJ Pickleball Championships 2026). Before you enter a tournament, check its official guidelines.
How to read our sources
Numbers like (8.F.4) are rulebook sections, and links are outside sources. An "Author's note" is the author's personal experience, not an official rule. Rules marked "Draft" have not yet been checked against the rulebook.
About our explanations
Our explanations are not a copy of the rulebook. They are written in plain words for beginners. When an official decision is needed, follow the official rulebook and the referee.
